All of his films really do provide a sense of spending time with these people, entering their worlds and experiencing things along with them.Ed Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18014222247676090467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-1886366197162654102011-03-07T11:29:00.444-05:002011-03-07T11:29:00.444-05:00Excellent review!

Very dostoievskian, I would say, but with the opposite polarity. Bernanos was a catholic though. It's every bit as severe and rigorous as Bresson but with quite different attitudes about faith and suffering.Ed Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18014222247676090467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-57266652637516686352011-03-02T09:18:19.362-05:002011-03-02T09:18:19.362-05:00This is one of Pialat's best films, and Depard...This is one of Pialat's best films, and Depardieu's best performances. it's radically differetn from Bresson's Bernanos adaptations. The hero's confrontation with The Devil HGimself would be an odd fit in Bresson's cinematic universe. But it's quite at hom amidst the emotional savagery of Pialat.DavidEhrensteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11016905507543736049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-25459568779994412742011-03-02T09:17:12.934-05:002011-03-02T09:17:12.934-05:00Bonnaire is always so great.
