So your review is the first one. I liked it, even though it doesn't say much.
The movie is, imho, a masterpiece. Thewlis has one of his greatest characters, and I was amazed to see him so blunt in Harry Potter or in Dragonheart. Such a capable actor.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-89393839333268992982011-02-26T11:39:10.657-05:002011-02-26T11:39:10.657-05:00such a good moviesuch a good movieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-21849791048479279392010-01-13T09:50:17.246-05:002010-01-13T09:50:17.246-05:00I don't consider the sex scene in the beginnin...I don't consider the sex scene in the beginning to be a rape. I think what makes me feel this way is that it starts off with the woman involved giving subtle signs of consent. She says very clearly in the beginning "Oh, go on! Oh!" However, at some point the Johnny becomes more aggressive in his participation and ends up hurting her... there's a clear sign of when this Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-21812226740525441132009-05-12T20:12:00.000-04:002009-05-12T20:12:00.000-04:00This film opened my eyes to cinema proper, and see...This film opened my eyes to cinema proper, and seems to be one of those vastly underrated ones that people forget about.
Not me!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-90523405758657731772008-11-25T01:53:00.000-05:002008-11-25T01:53:00.000-05:00Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. That's all I've got to...Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.

That's all I've got to say about this movie...James Hansenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09650436008918093617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-19574208754508975612008-11-24T19:39:00.000-05:002008-11-24T19:39:00.000-05:00Yeah, I never expected to like this so much either...Yeah, I never expected to like this so much either -- I checked it out on a whim based on good recommendations, but I wasn't really expecting it to be such an overwhelming experience. "Riveting" is a great word for it.

You may be right about the opening scene, though it certainly seems like a rape or at least an attempted rape, and quite different from his later sex scenes, no matter Ed Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18014222247676090467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3296479421292377391.post-46969772467815145002008-11-24T18:12:00.000-05:002008-11-24T18:12:00.000-05:00Chalk this up as one of those movies I expected to...Chalk this up as one of those movies I expected to find "interesting" at best, insufferable at worse, but which was in fact one of the most riveting, entertaining, brilliant, and often funny movies I've seen. Biggest credit goes to Thewlis' dynamic, compulsively watchable performance and dialogue that can stand proudly alongside any other in film history. I'm not sure he rapes that girl in the Joel Bockohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238338958380683893noreply@blogger.com
